发明名称 Improvements in or relating to filters
摘要 <p>958,998. Filters. O. H. BANKER. July 9, 1962 [Oct. 6, 1961], No. 26175/62. Heading BID. A filter element comprises a cell enclosed by walls some of which are of rigid sheet material, others of flexible porous sheet filter material in strip form and having transverse zig-zag folds. The inner and outer apices of these folds are substantially equally spaced and lie respectively in flat planes. The side-edges of the strip of filter material are adhesively secured to walls of rigid material lying opposite each other, and one of the rigid walls contains an aperture to provide an outlet for fuel entering the cell through the filter material. The flexible porous sheet filter material may be paper, and the rigid sheet material may be metal sheet or stiff paper. The filter element may form part of an "inline" filter in the fuel supply of an internal combustion engine. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, such a filter comprises a die-cast housing 20 (seeSpecification958,999) having axially aligned inlet and outlet 21 and 22 communicating with inlet and outlet chambers 23 and 24 respectively. Chambers 23 and 24 are open at the bottom, and communicate with bowl 25, of glass or transparent plastic, containing a filter element 43. The element comprises a strip of porous filter material 44, Fig. 3, folded in zigzag fashion, and then doubled at 46<SP>1</SP> so that the series of apices 46 and 47 are uniformly spaced and lie in flat planes. The folded filter strip is given rigidity and made to form three sides of a container by thin sheet metal closure 50, Fig. 4. The rectangular top 51 of the closure, having outlet aperture and short tube 57, is placed over the folded filter strip 44, and sides 52 and 53 of the closure are bent inwardly against the edges of the folds 45 of strip 44. An adhesive is applied to the inner surfaces of 51, 52 and 53 prior to insertion of the filter strip. The resulting filter element 43 is connected to outlet chamber 24, sealed by gasket 61, so that the liquid flows into the filter cell through the porous walls and out through the aperture in the rigid wall 51. In another embodiment (not shown) tube 57 is replaced by a tube formed on to the die-cast housing, which is inserted into the aperture in the rigid wall of the filter cell. In a further embodiment the filter element 91, Fig. 8, a single strip of filter material, is folded as in Fig. 10, to give a diamond-shaped crosssection, the free ends of the folded strip being joined with a piece of the same material or with a rigid insert. The open ends (i.e. top and bottom) of the filter element are then closed by means of rigid walls (e.g. thin metal plates) 98 and 99 having flanges 100 and 101 respectively. The edges of the folded strip are again adhesively secured to the rigid walls. Rigid wall 98 of the resulting filter element 91 is provided with aperture 102 for outlet of fuel. The element, placed inside the bowl, is held by spring 108 against gasket 85 thus sealing aperture 102 to outlet chamber 83 in housing 79. The position of the filter element relative to the housing is thus not determined by interlocking of parts, but is determined by the shape of the bowl, which fits closely to the corners of the filter element, Fig. 10. In each of the embodiments illustrated, a portion of the housing extends into the bowl (see Specification 958,999).</p>
