The present invention provides an apparatus (10) for the attraction and capture of insects, in particular flying insects. The apparatus includes and insect attractant and a means (26) for exhausting the same into the atmosphere. The attractant is exhausted in a substantially horizontal direction, this causing improved localised dispersion of the attractant and accordingly improved insect attraction. The invention further provides an improved arrangement of the inflow (36) and outflow means (26), this resulting improved air flow into the apparatus. The apparatus further includes a suction means which draws in insects attracted to the exhausted attractant and a means (35) for retaining the insects drawn in by the apparatus. The present invention further extends to a method for insect capture, wherein an attractant is exhausted in a horizontal direction. |
