<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air bag device for protecting a pedestrian or the like without a necessity of improving rigidity of a rear end part of a food nor reinforcing a base cloth of the air bag. <P>SOLUTION: Firstly, a first chamber 5a of the air bag 5 is expanded by gas of a first inflater 4a to move the hood 6 upward. Secondly, the whole of the air bag 5 is expanded by gas of a second inflater 4b to expand the air bag 5 backward. The amount of the gas of the first inflater 4a is enough to move the hood 6 upward, but less than the amount necessary to expand the whole of the air bag 5, the inner pressure of the air bag 5 is not too high, and the hood 6 is prevented from deformation when raising the rear end part of the hood 6, and the air bag 5 itself is prevented from damage. Consequently, it is unnecessary to improve rigidity of the rear end part of the hood 6 and to reinforce the base cloth of the air bag 5, and weight of the car body can be reduced and the air bag 5 manufacturing work can be simplified. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
