PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instantaneously change the environment in a liquid around a cell without affecting an observation visual field. SOLUTION: A substrate 2 for observation is provided as follows. The substrate 2 for observation is equipped with a substrate body 10 having a holding region S holding the cell A in a prescribed position on the top surface, electrode patterns 11 provided in a state of one end side located in the holding region S in the form of rails along the top surface of the substrate body 10 and movably supporting a droplet-like solution W and an electrically connecting part 12 electrically connected to the electrode patterns 11 and electrically connectable to the outside. The electrode patterns 11 are provided with a first electrode 20 and a second electrode 21 arranged parallel in a state with a prescribed interval kept therebetween. When an AC voltage at a prescribed frequency is applied between the first electrode 20 and the second electrode 21 through the electrically connecting part 12 from outside, the droplet-like solution W is made to migrate in an optional direction along both the electrodes 20 and 21 by dielectrophoretic force.
