<p>A system for controlling the water level in a domestic appliance with a washing compartment (16) includes: a chamber (22) having one wall closed by a flexible membrane (24) and which is in hydraulic communication with the compartment (16); a device operable to detect a movement in the membrane (24) and convert it into a signal able to activate means (20) for intercepting the water supply, the device having means for adjusting its operation, and means for separating the membrane (24) from the device which are operable to prevent a rupture in the membrane (24) from causing the device to come into contact with water from the chamber (22).
