A weigh jar for a milking installation has an outlet adapted to be connected to a milk line, an inlet 24 for connection to the teat cups and a connection 44 to a further vacuum line. A stem 46 is held in place on tube 44 by a pin 48 and carries a valve 50 so that when air enters the jar through the teat cup connection to enable the jar to be emptied the valve 50 is lifted into contact with tube 44 whereby the vacuum in the further vacuum line is maintained. An orifice 52 is provided in tube 44 to permit the valve to open when the pressure difference across the tube is below a predetermined value. For cleaning purposes the tube 44 may be connected to a source of cleansing solution, the valve 50 being shaped and positioned to deflect the solution up into the neck of the jar. |
