PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus capable of displaying an image with a high visual effect for strongly rousing user's attention. SOLUTION: In a television broadcasting display apparatus 100 for displaying an image based on an image signal on a monitor 2 by alternately displaying images of an odd field and an even field, the monitor 2 comprises a character display region 94 for displaying characters and a highlight display region for highlight displaying which is a background of the character display area 94. The display apparatus 100 includes a display control means (a CPU 11) for highlight displaying either the odd field of the highlight display area 95 or the even field of the highlight display area 95, and a blink display control means (the CPU 11) for blink displaying the character display area 94.
