PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a piping system even in drawings where the types of described symbols are different at the time of converting piping drawing electronic data into CAD data. SOLUTION: This piping drawing recognition device is provided with a line recognizing means 3 and a symbol recognizing means 4 for recognizing lines and symbols included in the electronic data of an image, and for generating vector data including their positions on a drawing, a graphic data storage device 6 for storing the generated vector data, a symbol connection database 7 and a piping connection database 10 for storing a rule related with the connection of the symbols and the piping and the connection of the piping and the piping, a piping retrieval setting means 9 and a piping recognizing means 11 for extracting the piping data from the data of the graphic data storage device 6 by referring to the symbol connection database 7 and the piping connection database 10, and for storing the piping data in the graphic data storage device 6 and a data output device 12 for outputting the data stored in the graphic data storage device 6 as the piping system data.
