PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make continued voltage application unnecessary particularly for maintaining an identical display content, and to change display with lower voltage in a display device which displays by transferring a liquid between electrodes in two spaces. SOLUTION: A transfer hole 15a is arranged on the left end of a midway partition wall 13 and an air hole 15b is arranged on a right end thereof, and at the same time, peripheral portions including the air hole 15b is subjected to water repelling treatment so as to inhibit inflow of a colored liquid 18. With application of a driving voltage (for example 10V) which is switched between a first electrode plate 11a and a second electrode plate 11b, the colored liquid 18 is transferred between upper and lower layer spaces 14a, 14b via the hole 15a. With the transfer of the liquid 18, air getting redundant in a space to which the liquid is transferred is smoothly transferred to a space from which the liquid is transferred via the air hole 15b. As a result, not only it is unnecessary to apply electric power as long as the display content is unchanged, but also the colored liquid 18 is always transferred without any stress, and reduction of power consumption is realized due to reduction of load required for high-speed display switching and driving.
