In a tape measure the winding drum 2 has a flange 1 having a circular cavity 3 and a radial groove 4 for accommodating a pivoted crank arm 6, the flange 1 and drum 2 being mounted in a casing consisting of a base 15 surmounted by an annular wall 16 having a slot for the tape and a groove 19 for the edge of the flange, the base 15 being provided with a central aperture 20. The drum may have double walls 9,10 which are slotted to receive the end of a measuring tape. The flange 1 and drum 2 are mounted on the casing by a hollow hub 23 positioned inside the aperture 3 of the flange 1 and fixed to the opposed side of the casing 16 by a screw. In modifications, a rotatably mounted flange either replaces the fixed flange, or is provided as a second flange secured to the drum at the opposed end to the first flange. The drum and flange are formed of plastics material.</p> |
