PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antitarnish agent that adequately prevents aluminum and an alloy thereof, which are prone to be corroded/discolored in an alkaline environment, from tarnishing in the alkaline environment, shows adequate solubility to an oily agent and a cleaning agent, and has its own stability sufficiently. SOLUTION: The antitarnish agent for aluminum and the alloy includes an alkali metal salt, an ammonium salt or an amine salt of a diacylated product of a polybutylene glycol with a molecular weight of 500 to 2,000 and an acid anhydride; alternatively, an alkali metal salt, an ammonium salt or an amine salt of a monoacylated product of a 18C or more unsaturated alcohol and an acid anhydride; or alternatively, an alkali metal salt, an ammonium salt or an amine salt of a monoacylated product of a polyoxyalkylenealkyl ether with a HLB of 8 or less.
