PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable reading of an optional range of a read matter such as a picture, in electronic album formation, and obtain an image of picture or the like with high resolution. SOLUTION: Moving markers M1 and M2 are displayed on a screen of a liquid crystal display part 14, so that a selected range Q in an image Ib of a picture or the like can be designated, optical zoom is made function to an enlargement magnification at which the selected range Q occupies the largest size in the reading area of a CCD, and the enlarged image is read by the CCD. According to this, an image of a picture Pb or the like with high resolution is regularly read. The thus-read material image Ib of the picture Pb or the like is stored and also displayed on the liquid crystal display part 14, and various material images are arranged in optional positions by operating an operation part 12 while watching the liquid crystal display part 14 to form an album image.
