[Also in Divisions B6 and G2] A web bearing sequential printed areas is cut into lengths corresponding to the areas, the cutter being controlled by marks preprinted on the web. As shown, the web issues from a xerographic copying machine in which it is also printed with spots of electrically-conducting material and is drawn over a table 72 by the nip of driven roller 73 and rollers 74. Contacts 93, 94 project through an aperture in the table and the web is pressed against the contacts by a spring-biased roller 89. When a marked spot arrives at the contacts a circuit is made and energizes, through a delay circuit, a singlerevolution clutch operating the cutter cylinder 110 having a cutting edge 118 co-operating with a fixed plate 120. The cut sheet passes over plate 121 and is accelerated away from the cutter into a delivery piler by driven roller 122 and its co-operating rollers. In a modification, the cutter may be controlled photo-electrically from a mark on the web.</p> |
