The device has a functional component (11) reading a configuration file containing information for access to data sources/sinks. An access component (12) includes technical information to act on the sources/sinks. An adapter component (13) e.g. interface, establishes a connection between the component (12) and the sources/sinks and has adapters for direct attachment to the sources/sink to address the sources/sinks online or offline. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method of controlling access to data sources and/or data sinks in a computer system (2) a computer-readable medium including instructions for executing a method of controlling access to data sources and/or data sinks in a computer system.
