The housing has a gas generator chamber (16), and a gas generator (6) contained in the chamber. A folded, inflatable airbag (8) is contained in an airbag chamber (32). A housing part (12) forming the airbag chamber is designed using grids (22). The grids comprise of rods which are formed between comb-type recesses, where the rods are arranged in a traversed manner and exhibit an oblong cross-sectional shape.
