The device has a semiconductor body, a frequency translator and an analog-digital converter. An output of a signal generator is connected to a local oscillator input of the translator. A control circuit (9) produces a control signal to adjust the operating point of the generator depending on internal signals that designate an operating condition of the device. The signal reduces the clock speed of the converter for digital signal processing. An independent claim is also included for a method of operating a signal processing device.
