<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of providing high display quality for both the transmissive display and reflective display, even by a single-gap system. <P>SOLUTION: The intensity of an electric field along the thickness of a liquid crystal layer 104 in an in-pixel reflection display region 12 is made smaller than that in an in-pixel transmissive display region 11. More specifically, electric field is applied in the in-pixel transmissive display region 11 along the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 104 and also applied to the in-pixel reflective display region 12 in a direction oblique to the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 104.
