Disclosed is an amyloid ß protein aggregation inhibitor. The inhibitor comprises a compound represented by the chemical structure composed of a monosaccharide or a sugar chain having two or more monosaccharides, wherein a part or all of the OH groups are substituted by (i) a sulfo group or a salt of a sulfo group and (ii) a hydrophobic group and a part or all of the remainder of the substituted OH groups may be substituted by a group selected from H, NH<SUB>2</SUB>, NHR<SUP>6</SUP> and NHR<SUP>6</SUP>R<SUP>7</SUP>. Particularly preferably, the inhibitor is a compound represented by the general formula (1).
