PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform power control of a hard disc delicately. SOLUTION: The electronic camera comprises an imaging means (31) for transforming the image of an object into an image signal, a first image storage area (32) constituted of a semiconductor memory, a second image storage area (29) constituted of a hard disc, a means (50) for judging whether the free space of the first image storage area became smaller than a first reference level or not, a means (50) for storing the image signals from the imaging means sequentially in the first image storage area and making a hard disc active when the results from the judging means becomes affirmative, a means (50) for altering the storage area of an image signal from the imaging means to the second image storage area when the hard disc becomes active, and a means (50) for moving the image signal stored in the first image storage area to the second image storage area when the hard disc becomes active.
