The drive unit for a motor vehicle comprises an internal combustion engine, a transmission and an electric machine installed between the engine and the transmission casing and which has a rotor driven by a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. The rotor (12) has a rotational axis (15) offset to the side with regard to the rotational axis (13) of the crankshaft (4) and is connected to the crankshaft via a gearwheel stage (10). The gearwheel stage comprises two gearwheels (18,17) with spur toothing and which is connected to the crankshaft or to the rotor torsionally fixed. An independent claim is included for a motor vehicle with a driven unit according to the invention.
