PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a magnetic filter capable of separating to recover an oil content and a magnetic particle such as an iron powder attached to the magnetic filter at a high yield, and an apparatus for cleaning using it. SOLUTION: The method for cleaning the magnetic filter that cleans the magnetic filter on the surface of which a high-viscosity oil content and the magnetic particle are adsorbed by a cleaning liquid separates only the oil content from the surface of the filter in a state of applying a magnetic field to the magnetic filter while loading vibration with flow of the cleaning liquid, and then removes the magnetic particle from the surface of the filter in a state of extinguishing the magnetic field of the magnetic filter with flow of the cleaning liquid. Further, in the apparatus for cleaning to employ this cleaning method, the apparatus for cleaning the magnetic filter includes a filter cleaning tank having an inflow and an outflow ports of the cleaning liquid, a vibrator for providing the magnetic filter accommodated in the filter cleaning tank with vibration and a magnet for applying the magnetic field to the magnetic filter.
