<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a code word extracting apparatus and method thereof capable of extracting a code word from a variable length coded data stream at a high speed, while suppressing the increase in the circuit scale and to provide a decoder, and to provide an image reproducing apparatus that uses the code word extracting apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The code word extracting apparatus repeats loading of code words to a plurality of matching detection sections and each of the matching detection sections detects the code words. The matching detection sections execute matching detection between the plurality of code words and a data stream in parallel. Further, code words with shorter run length are preferentially selected from among a code word table than the code words with longer runlength and loaded to the storage sections of the coincidence detection sections U0, U1, U2. Thus, high-speed code word extraction processings can be executed, while suppressing increase in the circuit scale. Moreover, the decoder can decode quantization coefficients at a proper speed with a proper circuit scale, without the need for generating the quantization coefficients at a speed higher than the required speed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
