In order to prevent an inflated airbag from retracting into the space between an instrument panel and a dash panel, a closing panel (5) is provided to close the space between the lower end of the instrument panel (3) and the dash panel (4). An occupant's leg protection system (10) is mounted on the back of the instrument panel (3) so as to face an airbag-through opening (3a) of the instrument panel (3). When the airbag (14) has deployed, the upper part thereof inflates forward of the knees of the occupant and the lower part inflates forward of the ankles or the insteps. Since the space between the instrument panel (3) and the dash panel (4) is closed by the closing panel (5), the airbag (14) does not retract into the space when the ankles or the insteps have hit against the lower part of the airbag (14). <IMAGE> |
