PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission device for an automobile, in which an electric motor having functions of switching the driving force of an engine and the electric motor, assisting the driving force of the electric motor for shortage of the driving force of the engine, or relaxing a speed change shock of a stepped variable transmission due to the driving force of the electric motor is disposed rationally and efficiently in the transmission device. SOLUTION: A speed change mechanism including an output shaft for transmitting the rotation from an input shaft to which the rotation of engine is transmitted to a wheel and a plurality of speed change gears for changing the speed of the rotation of the input shaft and transmitting the rotation to the output shaft is disposed in an outer shell connected and fixed to the engine, and additional rotating force is applied to the plurality of speed change gears by the electric motor fitted to the outside of the outer shell.
