<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for catching a cell and a method for catching the cell which are capable of catching the cell always in a stable state. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus for catching the cell 11 is provided with a passage 17 partitioning a smaller opening than the cell, the passage 17 is connected with a negative pressure-generating means 22 generating the negative pressure in the passage 17, and the passage 17 is further connected with a negative pressure-regulating means 23 for regulating the negative pressure in the passage 17. In the apparatus for catching the cell 11, the negative pressure is generated in the passage 17 by the action of the negative pressure-generating means 22. The cell is caught at the opening of the passage 17 based on the negative pressure, and the negative pressure in the passage 17 is maintained e.g. constant by the negative pressure-regulating means 23. For example, even if the negative pressure in the passage 17 is changed based on the temperature change in the passage 17, the negative pressure is regulated into an optimal state.
