PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous liquid of an acrylic or a methacrylic ester copolymer suitable for a binder, a pressure-sensitive adhesive or a coating agent without leaving an odorous component. SOLUTION: The aqueous liquid of the copolymer is produced as follows. An aqueous liquid of the copolymer composed of a polymer salt and an aqueous medium and obtained by neutralizing a part or all of acidic groups in the copolymer having a unit composed of an acrylic ester and/or a methacrylic ester monomer having >105°C boiling point and≥0.05 meq/g acid value with a base is charged into a vessel carrying out vacuum distillation and the temperature of the aqueous liquid of the copolymer is kept at 55-85°C under stirring. The interior of the vessel is maintained in a state of pressure at which water boils. Pressurized steam is blown into the aqueous liquid of the copolymer in the vessel and steam in the vapor-phase part in the vessel and a volatile organic compound vaporized from the aqueous liquid of the copolymer are removed to the outside of the system with an exhaust pump.
