<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sialon ceramic porous body exhibiting a smooth surface performance and a method and applications for the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the sialon ceramic porous body exhibiting the smooth surface nature which consists essentially of β-sialon, (1) the β-sialon has a composition expressed by a general formula, Si<SB>6-z</SB>Al<SB>z</SB>O<SB>z</SB>N<SB>8-z</SB>, where value (z) is ≥0.1 and ≤3, (2) the ratio of β-sialon crystal grain having an aspect ratio of ≥1 and ≤4 is ≥60% of total β-sialon crystal grain and it is preferable that the porosity is ≥30% and ≤70% and an average pore diameter is ≥0.2 μ and ≤2 μ. The method of manufacturing the same is provided. A corrosion resistant member is composed of the ceramic porous body.
