PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operating method for a single cylinder two cycle engine smoothly or silently running at idle and having a small exhaust gas value. SOLUTION: In this operating method for the single cylinder two cycle engine having a cylinder 2 in which a combustion chamber 5 formed by a piston 7 is formed and the piston 7 drives a crankshaft 25 rotatably supported in a crankcase 3, a fuel and a combustion air are fed to the two cycle engine 1, the mixture of the fuel and the combustion air is ignited in the combustion chamber 5, and the exhaust gas is discharged from the combustion chamber 5 to the outside through an exhaust port 6.
