PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce display lag of a through image in an arrangement where an imaging unit integrating an optical system and an imaging element can be attached removably to the imaging apparatus body. SOLUTION: When a mode for displaying a through image is selected, a body CPU 92 inquires an imaging unit 14 for the number of pixels of an area CCD sensor 42, operates the phase difference between an imaging timing signal for driving the area CCD sensor 42 and a reproduction timing signal for regulating the reading timing of image data from the frame memory 106 such that read out of image data from the frame memory 106 is started upon elapsing a time required for writing or reading data of one line after writing of image data received from the imaging unit 14 into the frame memory 106 is started based on the number of pixels of the area CCD sensor 42, and then sets the phase difference in a reproduction TG 108.
