PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color gamut compressor in which the generation of a false contour line can be suppressed, and stabilized image quality can be attained for an image subjected to color gamut compression without requiring complex operation. SOLUTION: Since the color gamut compressor is arranged to compare a plurality of prestored regions (region A to region D) with an inputted color component distribution and to perform color gamut compression (decompression) based on a compression table or a decompression table corresponding to a region including the color component distribution entirely, the generation of the false contour line can be suppressed as compared with the case that compression is performed by operation for every color component, and the occurrence of an accidental error can be prevented without requiring complex transformation operation.
