<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compression method and an image compression device that can increase compression efficiency by coding by ensuring redundancy. <P>SOLUTION: The image compression method for compressing an image including a recognition object inputs an image including a recognition object, applies predetermined filtering to the input image to acquire a median in the filter, compares the acquired median and a pixel value of current interest and, if their difference is not smaller than a predetermined threshold, keeps the pixel of interest unprocessed, or if not, replaces the pixel value of current interest with the acquired median as smoothing, and applies variable length coding depending on the frequency of appearance to the smoothed image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
