PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for monitoring environmental vibration which applies the evaluation of SI value applied in seismic engineering to evaluation of environmental vibration. SOLUTION: The environmental vibration due to traffic vibration and machine vibration is detected, a spectrum intensity value is calculated, a vibration effect quantity quantified from the spectrum intensity value is calculated and the spectrum intensity value and the vibration effect quantity are preserved in the environmental vibration monitoring method. The calculated frequency range of the spectrum intensity value can be arbitrarily controlled. The system comprises a servo type detector 1 for detecting environmental vibration, a signal conditioner 2 for amplifying the detected analog signal, a signal convertor 3 converting the analog signal to digital signal, an analyzing computer device 6 calculating the spectrum intensity value from the vibration signals, a monitor 9 displaying the vibration signals and the spectrum intensity value, devices 6, 10 capable of inputting the calculation frequency range of the spectrum intensity and a data preserver 8 for preserving waveform data based on time history, the calculated spectrum intensity value and quantitative vibration effect quantity.
