摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication module that enables an optical output from a surface emitting laser to be monitored without installing an optical branching element in an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The optical communication module 1A is equipped with a waveguide sheet 2 with a core 8 and the surface emitting laser 5. The waveguide sheet 2 is constituted in such a manner that a tilted end face 10 is formed at one end, that a reflection face 11 is formed by the end face of the core 8 exposed on the tilted end face 10, and that a light incident plane 12 is formed vertically to the extending direction of the core 8 and opposite to the reflection face 11. The surface emitting laser 5 is mounted under the incident plane 12 so as to be opposite to the reflection face 11 of the waveguide sheet 2. Transmission light emitted from the surface emitting laser 5 is made incident on the waveguide sheet 2 from the incident plane 12, reflected on the reflection face 11 and propagated through the core 8, while a part of the transmission light is leaked from the tilted end face 10 to the upper face of the waveguide sheet 2. A photodiode 6 is mounted at a position where the leaked light from the tilted end face 10 can be received, and thus the optical output of the surface emitting laser 5 is monitored.
