A method for forming a holographic stereogram from plural source data frames comprises dividing the source data frames into plural sections 304, mapping 306 the sections to form plural pre distort images, compensating 308 the predistort images for saturation variation, compressing 312 the pre distort images to form plural holographic elements (hologels), and recording 314 the holographic elements. Alternatively, a method for generating a reference relationship between a pre distort image average pixel level and the predicted pixel brightness in a generated image comprises generating reference source data frames having colour graduation; then, after sectioning, mapping, compressing and recording steps, measuring the brightness of a reference stereogram image and plotting a graph of average pixel value against brightness. Also claimed are methods establishing a weighting factor relationship between one pixel colour component against an average pixel value, as well as a general method for reducing holographic stereogram ghosting by compensating for non linear recording medium characteristics. |
