The holding device has between each parallel support (10) and the associated vice jaw (3,5) two spaced detent mechanisms which are arranged laterally spaced from each other outside of the jaw side faces (7,8). Each detent mechanism comprises a one piece elastic element (9) which is held at one end on a jaw side face or end face and at the other end on an outer region of the parallel support by means of a releasable catch. The elastic element is a tension spring and the catch element is a pin in the end face of the parallel support and a pin (15) on the jaw side.
