PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible recover only carriers which become unnecessary out of the developers supposed to recover from the developing unit, and reuse the usable toner without making the developing unit larger and without degrading the toner. SOLUTION: This developing unit has a container to house a developing roller for carrying the two-component developer, and a developer circulation zone to house the stir-and-carry component which supplies the developer to this developing roller container and circulates it while stirring. Further, it has a separating means to separate the developer inside the developer circulation zone into toner and carriers, and an ejection means to eject the separated carriers from this developer circulation zone, and the above separating means and the ejection means are located higher in the gravity direction inside the developer circulation zone.
