FIELD: electrical engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: proposed high-voltage load switch operates when immersed in insulating liquid and can change over one or more supply phase leads using one or more phase changers. Each phase changer has first and second movable contacts and fixed contact. First fixed contact is connected to phase lead of high-voltage power supply. Moving area of first movable contact between first and second positions includes arcing area. Switch incorporates mechanism for insulating liquid circulation through arcing area. Nonconducting shield used for arc suppression between different phases isolates different phase changers when more than one phase changer is used. Nonconducting shield can also isolate one phase from ground thereby preventing phase-to-ground arcing. ^ EFFECT: improved performance characteristics. ^ 26 cl, 10 dwg
