A trapezium shaped mattress, bolster or like support comprises a trapezoidal lower section 7 and a triangular upper section 8 with the dividing plane AB extending through the top rear corner 6 and the centre line 5 of the inclined front edge 4. The sections 7, 8 are detachably interconnected on a hinge line 5 by a sliding clasp fastener or other hinge means so that the sections may be arranged in a variety of combinations. The sections 7, 8 may themselves be divided into separate sub-sections (7a, 7b and 8a, 8b) (Fig. 8 - not shown). A rectangular extension formed by two separate wedge sections (13a, 13b) may be provided. Each section may comprise foamed rubber, foamed plastics, hay, straw, cork, wire springs, hollow bodies of metal, wood or plastics, fabric or gauze covered wire frames, or air-filled rubber coated fabric containers. Each section may be enclosed in a washable fabric or plastics cover. The covers may be releasably fastened together in the selected position of use. The supporting surface may be reinforced with a hard plate. Heating elements, vibrator elements or a liquid container for applying steam or vapour to a patient, may be incorporated in the sections.
