<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device for OCB mode, of which the display unevenness caused by retardation variations of optically anisotropic layers that vary with the temperature and humidity, is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal cell 1 for bend alignment mode and a pair of polarizing films 14 and 24 disposed on both sides of the liquid crystal cell 1, and has a first optically anisotropic layer 12 and a second optically anisotropic layer 11 at least between the polarizing film 14 and the liquid crystal cell 1, where the first optically anisotropic layer 12 contains a polymer with 1.0% or lower moisture content and has the direction of an in-plane maximum refractive index being parallel or vertical to the in-plane transmission axis of the polarizing film 14; the second optically anisotropic layer 11 contains a hybrid-aligned discotic compound and has an angle of 45° between the direction of molecular symmetric axes of the discotic compound in the second optically anisotropic layer 11, projected to the place and the in-plane transmission axis of the first polarizing film 14; and the liquid crystal display device has a cellulose acylate film 13, of which the optical anisotropy is sufficiently lowered between the first optically anisotropic layer 12 and the polarizing film 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
