In a process for imaging image points of a video picture by means of a light bundle (40, 40'; 64, 64') which is controlled in intensity with respect to the b rightness of the image points and which is deflected and then projected onto a screen (54) by a l ens (63, 63') or a lens system (50), a variable focal length is provided for the lens (63, 63' ), the lens system (50) or a partial lens system (78) of the lens system (50) and an object-side fo cal point is maintained stationary when the focal length is varied. In an apparatus for imagi ng image points of a video picture on a screen (54), with a deflecting device which defle cts a light bundle (40, 40'; 64, 64') onto a screen (54) for linewise and framewise raster-s canning, this light bundle (40, 40'; 64, 64') being controlled in intensity with respect to th e brightness of the image points, and with a lens (63, 63') or a lens system (50) between the deflec ting device and the screen (54), the lens (63, 63'), the lens system (50) or a partial lens syst em (78) of the lens system (50) can be adjusted with respect to focal length, and a device is provid ed which maintains stationary an object-side focal point of the lens (63, 63') or partial lens system (78) during adjustment of the focal length.
