PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage apparatus in which work required for recycle and disposal of a hard disk can be prevented by setting a constitution that the hard disk is erased instantly and imaginarily without overwriting data for erasing on a whole hard disk medium. SOLUTION: In a data storage apparatus such as a hard disk, when erasion of data of the hard disk is indicated, an initial value of pseudo random numbers of a recording side and a reproducing side are changed by an initial value changing means. As the result of change of the initial value, since data recorded newly is recorded based on the changed initial value (new initial value) and reproduced based on the new initial value, the hard disk apparatus can be used without hindrance.
