PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can prevent the influence of the trouble of the apparatus having a possibility of arising by accompanying a temperature rise and on the lifetime of the apparatus. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus equipped with a fixing device of an induction heating system having a heating roller and a coil in the heating roller has such a shielding means for an interlinking magnetic flux which locally changes the distribution of the interlinking magnetic flux of the heat roller generated from the coil, a driving means for moving the shielding means to a first position where the interlinking magnetic flux section is shielded and to a second position where the linkage magnetic flux section is not shielded, a temperature measuring instrument for measuring the surface temperature of the heating roller, and a drive detecting means for detecting whether the driving of the shielding means by the driving means is normally ended or not and stops the control of the induction heating when the drive detecting means detects the end of drive abnormality of the shielding means and the temperature by the temperature measuring instrument exceeds the first reference value.
