PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance suppressing hyperplasia of pancreatic cells causing malfunction or dedifferentiation of the pancreatic islet or a substance suppressing hypersecretion of insulin. SOLUTION: The PACAP (pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide) is useful as an inhibitor of hyperplasia of pancreatic cells and/or an inhibitor of hypersecretion of insulin. The PACAP is utilized for estimation or the like of a pancreatic cell hyperplasia inhibitor and/or an insulin hypersecretion inhibitor by making use of the expression of RegIIIβby stimulation of the PACAP as an index.
