PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-scan type femtosecond time-resolution fluorescence microscope capable of providing a time-resolved fluorescence two-dimensional image with a high time resolution of femto second order without scanning. SOLUTION: A laser beam coming from a pulse laser beam generating means 10 is divided into two by a half mirror 11, and one divided beam is radiated to a sample as an excitation light. A nonlinear optical element 24 for producing an optical Kerr effect is sandwiched and arranged between a pair of polarizing plates 23 and 25 of which deflection directions intersect orthogonally in an imaging optical system for condensing the fluorescence generated from the sample 17 and forming the fluorescence image of the sample, the other laser beam divided by the half mirror 11 is radiated as a gate light to a nonlinear optical element 24. The optical path difference between the excitation light and gate light is adjusted by an optical delay circuit 30, and the fluorescence image of the sample is picked up by a two-dimensional imaging means 29.
