The invention relates to a process of making hydrogen and at least one product selected from acetic acid, acetic anhydride, methyl formate, methyl acetate, from a hydrocarbon via intermediate methanol, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, said process comprising the steps of reforming a hydrocarbon with steam to form a syngas, submitting at least a portion of the syngas to a separation step, operating a methanol synthesis loop to prepare intermediate methanol and reacting said methanol with a carbon monoxide-rich stream from the separation step. The process may be carried out in a plant retrofitted from an existing methanol or methanol/ammonia plant. |
