The invention relates to processes for preparing a compound of the formula (V) and alkyl boronic esters thereof wherein R¹ is attached at the 2 or 3 position of the benzene ring, R² is attached at the 5 or 6 position, and R¹, R² and G are as defined herein. Said compound is a key synthetic intermediate in the preparation of 2-amino-6-(substituted-4-phenoxy)-substituted-pyridines useful as nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors in a mammal.
