PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide plain tiles for roofing capable of preventing back flow of rain water at inserted portions of the tiles even though a working length of the plain tiles is increased and also capable of offering a compact packing form when a plurality of the plain tiles are stacked for transport. SOLUTION: Plain tile 1 having a hip flashing portion 2 at a hip B with a difference in level higher than an exposed surface E receiving rain water is manufactured; and an inserted portion C having a difference in level lower than the exposed surface is formed at a side of the plain tile. A level difference 13 higher than another portion C2 of the inserted portion is provided at a portion C1 near the hip of the inserted portion, thereby preventing back flow of rain water to the hip side even though the rain water flows from a gap created between plain tiles to the inserted portion. In addition, a cut 17 is made by cutting off a predetermined amount of the rear side portion near the hip side thereby preventing the occurrence of unnatural interference between the plain tiles after they are stacked and packed for transport.
