PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for smelting copper sulfide concentrate by which, even in the case where SiO<SB>2</SB>concentration in slag is increased, stable continuous smelting can be carried out without causing troubles, such as increase in apparent viscosity of the slag and foaming. SOLUTION: In the method for smelting the copper sulfide concentrate, oxidation smelting is applied to copper matte using a flux containing CaO to form calcium-ferrite slag and obtain crude copper. When T represents oxidation smelting temperature and [%SiO<SB>2</SB>], [%Fe], [%CaO] and [%Cu<SB>2</SB>O] represent their respective concentrations by mass% in the slag, the following relation is satisfied: in the case where T, [%Cu<SB>2</SB>O] and [%SiO<SB>2</SB>] are within the ranges satisfying 1,213°C≤T≤1,439°C, 12%≤[%Cu<SB>2</SB>O]≤18% and [%SiO<SB>2</SB>]≤7%, respectively, [%Fe]/[%CaO] is within the range satisfying (6.8×10<SP>-4</SP>×[%SiO<SB>2</SB>]-9.9×10<SP>-3</SP>)×T-[%SiO<SB>2</SB>]+14.4≤[%Fe]/[%CaO]≤2.4-0.15×[%SiO<SB>2</SB>].
