<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a pattern from image data in a short time. <P>SOLUTION: A pattern detection program 17 is stored in the program memory 11 of a personal computer 2. Upon the start of the pattern detection program 17, a reduced-image creation part 20, a pattern detection part 21, and a coordinate transformation part 22 are created in a CPU 10. The reduced-image creation part 20 creates reduced image data by reducing pixels of the image data, and thus reducing data capacity. The pattern detection part 21 detects the pattern of human eyes or the like and their coordinates from the reduced image data created.
