PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noise detection circuit which accurately detects pixels in which impulse noise is mixed in image data, a signal processing apparatus accurately eliminating the impulse noise, an imaging apparatus provided with the apparatus, and a noise elimination method. SOLUTION: While an object pixel to be a vertical direction noise candidate is detected on the basis of the signal level of the object pixel in the image data and the signal level of a pixel adjacent in a vertical direction to the object pixel, the object pixel to be a horizontal direction noise candidate is detected on the basis of the signal level of the object pixel and the signal level of a pixel adjacent in a horizontal direction to the object pixel. The object pixel pertinent to both of the vertical direction noise candidate and the horizontal direction noise candidate is detected, and noise elimination using a median filter is performed only to the object pixel.
